According to the Mayans, the world is ending on Dec 21, 2012. Personally I think this is horse shit but there are zealots whom will disagree. Conspiracy theory nut jobs, whom have no life and have spent years preparing for something that is not going to occur. If they are right then at least they will never know XD.

I am interested in some of your views.

There are over 10,000 texts that the Mayans have wrote that we have even found and began to decode...etc etc. many cultures have wrote of a cataclysmic end as part of their religion this is but another. Much has been wrote and published for decades on this topic here is but one such thing;

It must be understood, when progressing through the creation cycle to its termination point, one does not arrive at December 21, 2012, but instead, October 28, 2011. Dr. Calleman doesn't argue with the fact that the 13 Baktun Long Count calendar has a termination point on December 21, 2012, but it his contention that the long count calendar does not properly reflect the “Shifting” energies of the “creation cycles,” which featured so prominently in Mayan philosophical thought. In other words, the Long Count does not show when the “shifting energies” occur, the 9 underworlds and 13 heavens of the creation cycle do. The creation cycle comes from the dates encoded on the “Coba Stone” and is a reflection of “Sacred Time” from the beginning of the universe until now! The Mayans were not concerned with the beginning date or end-date, but they were concerned with the overall creation cycle. The Maya merely chose to begin their long count calendar on the solar zenith day, Aug. 12, 3,114 B.C., due to it being a “known” holy day with an older tradition and out of convention , even though the Long Count calendar didn't properly match up with the divine creation cycle they also utilized. The Long Count is an approximation that is within about a year of the actual creation cycle from the beginning of time until now. Consequently, Mayan scholars, by focusing on the Long Count and not the wave cycles of creation, have chosen the wrong day for the end-point for the Mayan calendar; it's not 12-21-2012, but 10-28-2011! According to this ancient prophetic calendar, within all of our lifetimes something profound is going to occur.

Ahem, in other words...IT was NOT a prediction for the End of days...;) but just an end of their "creation cycle" and calendar as they wrote it at that time. I'm sure had they not got wiped out by disease and Spaniards etc..they would have continued their "CReation cycle" and calendars.

I agree with Eric, though if it is true, there is a God. This world has gone to crap and people have changed to where they are out for themselves. I understand times are hard but if people can't keep their word (promises) then I welcome the end with open arms.

I think this is very stupid. The world is going to end when fate decides it, when god decides it. We are not the ones to say, "We're all going to die 2012." No. Die, my ass. They said we were going to die in what? 2000? Did we die? Hell to the no. My grandmother says; "We're the human race, we are no saints." So why should we have the word, "We die", when it's God's job, not ours.

Plus, I think this may be another issue with some of us. Some of us, end our lives in fear of what will happen in the future. A few years back, a newly wedded couple committed suicide for this, and the world didn't end, and we all lived. If the world is going to end, it's up to some saint, not to the Mayans. There's my point. It's up to a saint, not to the Mayans. Period.

The mayans' are my ancestors but who said I have to listen to family? Definately not me. The world will not end, but if it does, it better do so before my finals tomorrow! All this studying would be for nothing :\
I honestly believe the world will not end. The world ends when a person dies. And the life continues when a new one opens their eyes.

Amen to that, Sis! Heck yeah. I got finals tomorrow too, I don't wanna do them. Dumb old Advanced classes, and their stupid tests. :D

The truth is, it's not likely to happen that just because a calendar ends, the whole world will end. Every calendar ends. That's like saying that every year we should have been dead because the yearly calendars end. December 21st is just the day they decided to end it because no one can continue on making a calendar forever. It's physically impossible to predict what specific day the world will end and it's scientifically incorrect to believe a bunch of conspiracy theories over something so silly as a calendar ending. The Mayans weren't all knowing. For all we know, this whole thing could have been made up by Hollywood to get the movie 2012 sold. Also, yes the sun will eventually cause the Earth's demise by the sun is 10 billion years or so away from burning out and killing life on Earth. By then it could b like the movie Wall-e and we're all living in space. So to believe a silly calendar is stupid.

In conclusion, I will see you all on the 22nd.

It isn't going to happen. They said the world would end last year; it didn't happen. So...

I'm more so worried about the rioting that will result from this fiasco. The world may not end but that wont stop nutjobs and psychos from rioting and looting buildings.

I for one will be staying at home this year's cataclysm.

An estimated 63,072,000 people died last year worldwide.

Their world "ended" obviously. As someone said above "fate" will dictate the end ultimately....

Approx. 572,000 people died of Cancer in 2011
655,000 people died from Malaria probably twice that in 2011
Over 40,000 people died in car fatalities on US roads alone in 2011

to quote another popular phrase... "No one gets out alive in the end..be it by circumstance or old age causes."

Media loves a frenzy and this is yet another one to latch on to at the expense of ancient history based on the Mayan culture taken out of context.
