This suggestion outlines the creation and implementation of some new in-game items called Soulstone Rings. Basically these rings will give users boost to their stats and other benefits when worn.
User would have to do multiple things to acquire rings...
1. Acquire "Stones" from some source
2. Create "Rings" from crafting from soulsteel bars
3. Insert Stones into rings to produce beneficial effects when worn
Stones would come in various qualities and types altering the stone's potential and what it's effects are(stats or other).
Quality Ex: Cracked, Flawed, Opaque, Standard, Clean, Flawless, Perfect
Type Ex: Ruby, Emerald, Topaz, Amethyst, Diamond, Obsidian, etc.
(EDIT: With the onset of the Clone Garden and the removal of hunting stones will need to be acquired in a way other than hunting)
The quality of the stone received from hunt will depend on user level and hunting level but will not be any 1 quality 100% of the time, merely a higher chance of higher quality, and some types would be rarer than other.
Rings can be crafted in one of five types through crafting, with their availability based on crafting level. Each ring is better than the next with higher capabilities.
More details to come if interest is prevalent... ( I have many calculations and fine details already outlined)
I really like this idea. Would be a great feature to see put into place.

And would also give us something else to hunt for besides humans.
Edited at 01/14 21:51:40Does it have to be rings? I mean I could imagine it being possible to craft socketed weapons or armor where the soulstones could be placed into.

By making it a new item instead of altering existing ones creates an additional outlet for user to spend their resources and avoid any problems of compatibility trying to code in the added features to something that is already established....here's more details...
The five ring setting are as follows...
Single, Single w/ Accent, Double, Double w/ Accent, and Triple
basically the name implies the number of stones allowed in that particular ring...
Single: 1 stone of any quality
Single w/ Accent: 1 stone of any quality & 1 stone of lesser quality than the first
Double: 2 stones of any quality (including equal quality)
Double w/ Accent: 2 stones of any quality & 1 stone of lesser quality than both of the first two
Triple: 3 stones of equal value
Each ring has an inherent boost to Endurance (endurance is not a boost available through stones):
Single: 5
Single w/ Accent 10
Double: 15
Double w/ Accent: 20
Triple: 25
*or a similar scale*
Each stone will have an exclusive effect when inserted into a ring...
Ruby: Strength Boost
Emerald: Agility Boost
Topaz: Stamina Boost
Amethyst: Bonus Souls in hunting
Diamond: Boost to Weapon Effectiveness
Obsidian: Boost to Armor Effectiveness
The Stone's quality determines the magnitude of the effect...
Cracked: 1
Flawed: 2
Opaque: 3
Standard: 5
Clean: 7
Flawless: 9
Perfect: 12
...and the ring type as well...
Cracked Stone in Single ring: +1
Perfect Stone in Single ring: +12
Cracked Stone in Triple ring: +5
Perfect Stone in Triple Ring: +60
etc...
Stones laid in series in a ring will yield additional bonuses...
Single: 100% (no bonus for only 1 stone)
Single w/ Accent: 110% (ex. 1 perfect & 1 flawless = 46.2 total rather than 42)
Double:125% (ex. 2 perfects = 90 rather than 72)
Double w/ Accent: 135% (ex. 2 perfects & 1 flawless = 178.2 rather than 132)
Triple: 150% (ex. 3 perfects = 270 rather than 180)
...combining stone of alternate type will not give this bonus...
...BUT certain combinations may have "special effects" such as...
1 perfect Diamond & 1 perfect Obsidian in a Double Set ring yields a "Ring of the Warmonger" (or something similar) that gives, in addition to the normal bonuses, something unique to only that combination that is not available otherwise. Such as 5% bonus damage and damage protection in PVP in this case... many possibilities that could result there from all the different possible combinations.
Cost & Requirements:
Rings: The number of Soulsteel bars needed to create the five types of ring should be relatively low (logically). Like 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80, or something to that effect.
Meanwhile the crafting skill level should be much steeper, like 20, 50, 110, 230, and 470 (x*2+10)
Stones:
To acquire stone as I said in the OP I think they should be found randomly in chests and home searched during hunting (not from killing humans) this will eliminate the possibility of auto farming stones and will give users incentive to slow down during hunting (thus discouraging f5 spam in a positive manner, not negatively like captcha bans or the like)
The chance to find a stone would be by % that would increase as the user gains player levels and by increasing hunting level by mean of some formula, higher quality stone would be unlocked after hitting certain predetermined milestones in user's level but at a lesser percentage (low quality stone will still appear as well as newly unlocked ones). Once a player reached the level cap and has significantly increased their hunting level (just player level alone is not enough) the chances for flawless and perfect quality stone will become prevalent (and just slightly above the chance for lower quality stone, but not enough to make it impossible to get them at all.
Other things to consider:
-Making empty Rings, unused Stones, partially filled Rings, and Complete Rings, sell-able on the marketplace.
-Create a place where users can unlock the capability to combine multiple stones of the same type and quality to receive the same type stone of the next higher quality.
-Giving Ring a durability like stat called "Charge" that has to be refilled by raw souls when the ring is used extensively.
-additional Stone that can be purchased with in-game funds, as a premium vial, or with AP.

I think this is an incredible idea. I'm ready to see something put into effect in the near future.

I love this idea it would make the game more exciting to play and to train lol.
give's me a excuse to go hunting
Lets get this idea imlemented. This would make the game so much better.
You could do something like, a stone increases strength when hunting humans, and one for pvp, as some of each prefer training against humans, or players.

Maybe, the possibilities are only bound by Scot's willingness and ability to code/implement it.

OkAnd another realy good idea from White wolf
This is an awesome idea.

Reminds me of some of the crafting schemes from an mmorpg I used to play. It would make a great addition to the game.
