For many of us, forums are a vital aspect of the game-play. In fact, the majority of players use the forums in one way or another through Role-play, guides, and more. I understand Coven Wars is a relatively new game and as such, it is amazing the coding that has already been done in the majority of it but, regretfully, I must admit I feel as though the forums or, more specifically, coven forums, have been neglected.

What I am suggesting:

In the current forum layout, once a thread is created it appears as:

http://i56.tinypic.com/dxb980.png

Basically, all of the threads are placed in a single-file line and, once you get to a fair number of threads, are forced to all be bundled together. How could we, or better yet, you, change this?

Follow the same design you gave the public forums. Give coven owners and the staff therein the ability to, instead of creating a new "Topic" create a new "Section" (or other generic title) such as "Role-Play", "Help Guides", "Battling 101", etc.

Once this "Section" is created, the owner and staff then can 'click' on that "section" and fill it with "topics". This way there is a sense of organization that allows for quick navigation for new and old players (I use old lightly).

Why is this needed?

As the game progresses, covens arise, and methods advance on individuals game-play techniques coven will see a rise in forum threads for How-To's, not to mention the ever growing stories that our avid RP'ers are creating across the entire game. Once all of these threads, or "topics", are created they will -all- be just cluttered and it will take an excessive amount of time to navigate.

Why do this now?

The game is young, the covens are small in number. If you either gave warning before-hand for them to save there threads or gave them the option to still see them for a specific amount of time, it would not take any time at all to re-create them into the new forum system.

Later though, you will have dozens upon dozens of threads in each coven and it would not only take -days- to transfer it but, if they were deleted, imagine the drama that would cause!

Just my two cents on one subject and, since my coven is undergoing a massive remodeling and currently haven't posted our forum topics (as you could see above), I thought this would be a good time to bring it up. Thanks. :)

I support this idea. I even suggested that we have sections like the main forums. It would really be nice. Right now it may seem uneeded to many covens, and it may go un-used by those covens who do not use the forums much.

What would be nice, is if we didn't have to back up all of our content, but if this feature get added, and if we choose to make sections, we can make them, and move our threads into said section. And the covens who do not wish to use it do not have to make sections.

The main reason for this is, it would be great to be able to move threads anyways, because once you get people making more threads in the wrong section, you will want to move them, and make sure they are in the correct place. That being said, we should be able to have this feature added, without actually having to rebuild our forums, but rather, the sections will be built around what it already there. Just adding my two cents into an already good idea.

I did not mean have the topics all cluttered there Sabs. :) I suppose I was not specific by meaning that, the threads we have could either be moved into a specific section or just be deleted.

I also would like to clarify that, these sections, should be able to be named by the coven owner and/or staff. I understand that even the generic titles like the public forums would help but it limits the customization as well as the desires some owners may or may not want. For example, I may one day make a coven and want these as section titles:

Beginner Role-Play
Expert Role-Play
Clan News
How-To: Train
How-To: Making Money
How-To: Rank-Up in Coven

But yes, overall Sabs understood me completely. The ability to have sections similar to folders that hold the topics, the ability to move them around, deleted them, and edit them, is all I am after.

I knew I liked you for a reason Sabs. :P

Of course it would be best to name our own! hai If covens have a theme going, naming the sections just throws people more into the feel of it! It also makes each coven unique. Without having it be customizable, it would become an issue like coven ranks. Eventually getting changed after many people asked because it was too limited.

I hope this feature get placed in. ^_^ I already have ideas for sections, that could really help benefit my coven.

I thoroughly agree that being able to organize the coven forums would be a big help. I hate having all the coven forums not following some sort of guideline.

I am still hoping we can see this enhancement to the forums before long. Any ones feedback is welcomed and appreciated. My theory is that if enough of us want this then we can convince Mr. Lestat to cave. ;)

Thanks to Sabs and Charolette for starting out the support thus far.

This is Coven Wars. Should not the features of Covens be glorious? :D

Still hoping this will go through! I noticed no one had posted her lately nor had we seen this feature brought into the spot light so I was wondering if perhaps I was explaining the feature in a manner that was hard for people to understand? If this is the case, I bring great tidings from Microsoft Paint.

The following is a pictorial example of what I would like to see. Granted, I hope it looks much prettier once it becomes part of the game but my crude skills were able to get the overall point across (I hope):

"Sabs: Possible coven forum updates, any more thoughts on that?

Lestat: Coven Forum Updates are planned for the future but they’re not top on the To Do List. I’ve got a lot of other features that I think are a tiny bit more important."

That was take from the latest blog post. So I guess that serves an answer to the possible future of this suggestion.

Is there a way to subscribe to threads here? If there is I missed it, but I think that would be a good idea because for many who post a lot in the forums will lose track of it all. maybe. :D

No such thing yet. The idea has been tossed around a lot, and it still may come into play one day. :)

OK thanks. :)

I think it would also be good to not only have us be able to pin threads as coven staff, but also be able to lock threads. Like it there is a guide that we won't want comments on, to keep it clean, we should be able to lock it.

There should also be a way to just have the coven staff see threads. If we are planning on something new, or working on a guide that is not yet finished and do not want released yet, it would be nice to have only coven staff access it. (Those with access to the forums, those who have co-leader like status and the owner)

Just two more ideas for when we see this update :D

Also there is a bug that needs fixing. Once a post is made, if edited, it looses it's pinned status... If a coven staff member tries to edit it, and place it as a coven staff thread, it will NOT re-pin. So it either stays unpinned, or I (Because I am game staff) re-pin it using my staff thread status. But as soon as it gets edited again, it looses it. Rather annoying. :P

Oh yes, staff threads loosing their pinned status annoys the hell out of me!

As for having threads accessible only for coven staff, I will never support it. I think they make non-staff coven members feel left out. If I work on longer posts or threads, I just use notepad, and post it on forum when it's finished.

I think it would be a good idea to make it so we can space out the words in the post in the forums instead of it all mushing together. It got annoying when i tried to make a equipment and amour list with the Effectiveness and Level Required it all got mushed together.it would be nice if that did not happen.

I'd love to see new suggestions or additions to this idea... And I just to give it a friendly bump so we can hopefully bring light to a much needed update. :P

Same here. Would love to see this added sooner rather than later. :)

Another friendly bump, along with a partial idea....

It seems with the rant board, and the relationship board now, we are seeing a lot more activeness in the forums, which is awesome! hai But personally, looking at the recent topics and only seeing "Looking for Family!" is getting old, and the board has only been here about 12 hours. :P I think taking away the recent topics, and just making us click where it says "Forums" to view each board would be better overall. But then that page would need updating as well.

And with the site exploding as it is lately, the coven forums are becoming even more messy, giving us boards would be amazingly awesome, and would save a lot of time of pinning and unpinning threads. :D

I defiantly think this is a good idea. I mean currently the coven forums look messy, and unorganized. If we could make them more neater, and easier to navigate, then maybe more people will be able to use the forums. So yes, I support this idea! :)

Awww Gabs, cleaning the dust off my molted and moth-ridden ideas. :D Such a darlin'.

What can I say. I'm used to clearing your cobwebs. ;) :D Besides, it is a good idea, love. :q
