Item Sets

Though the original intention of this idea was to give users additional items to sell through Kal-El Shop suggestion this also opens the opportunity to create a unique way to deliver the game Lore without the burden of a Helpfiles-esque Lore section a la WoC.

A Branch idea of this is referred to as Tomes, which it almost exactly the same in concept, only most of the items are stand alone.

Now to the main point...

This idea would require a few things...
A.) The creation of a new class of items: “Item Sets” (possibly non-vial, non-weapon, non-armor, but not always)
B.) The creation of Multiple (if not numerous) sets of related Items (dozens of individual items with names and related content)
C.) The Addition of a NPC run shop or a new Section in the current market. (or variation)

Think of each Item Set like a puzzle, the more pieces you get the more you understand the bigger picture. (more benefits)
Imagine Items Set like a combination of Legendary Cards (HC) and McDonald's Monopoly, lol.

------1. ITEM SETS------

The set variations could run in the "NPC shop" (explained in the next section) from…
-Easy to collect (2-3 items and/or common appearance: low bonus)
to…
-Extremely hard (7+ items and/or very rare appearance: high bonus).
-Items that are in set locations would vary in reward based on the difficulty of access to them. (like a Legendary Card setup)

Example:
"Creator's Excerpt: page 1": (Component Set Item) 1 of 6
You could then examine the item to see a portion of text that is Lore based. (although conveniently incomplete, thus intriguing you to seek out more)

-If you collected all 6 Creator's Excerpts then you would get the option to consolidate all of these into one item (maybe through the use of another main item that you must purchase or gain through a quest)

The item created…
-"Tome of the Creator": (Complete Set Item) which you could then read as a whole thus gaining knowledge of part of the game's Lore. (and an in-game bonus)

-The Tome itself (or other Complete Set Items) could be sold only if unused, if used it transfers to your "Personal Collection" for later enjoyment (to go back to after completing other sets that may reveal other sides to the same Lore ;) ) where it cannot be removed.
-The pages (or pieces in the case of other sets) could also be sold individually, but the complete set cannot be separated once combined.
-Possible Achievements for collecting set parts and for complete sets.

---------- 2. NPC SHOP----------

The "NPC Shop" would restock a few random items periodically*, possibly with other currently in-game items, that are part of larger sets of items, once you collect them all you receive some sort of in-game bonus, or a partial bonus for collection a partial set. (other items not so valuable item would be included so that it take a bit of recognition and wit to weed out which ones are valuable and which are not, but could still be collected for fun)

*Every 5 hours seems logical to me so the restock time shifts by 1 hour per day, making it difficult to watch periodically so then it would go through 5-day cycles.
EX. on the first day it restocks at MIDNIGHT, 5AM, 10AM, etc, on the 2nd day it restocks at 1AM, 6AM, 11AM, etc, until reaching full cycle upon the beginning of the 6th day where it restarts again.
-A countdown timer could be put in the Shop for the arrival of the "next shipment".

With Kal-El's Shop idea (linked at the end of this post) these items could be sold by users for an appropriate price based on its rarity and the demand. (like any market)

Users would compete against each other for who picks them up off the NPC market and if they don't need it they can sell it in their player shop (again if implemented in conjunction with Kal-El's suggestion linked above, or just added to the current market) competing for a marketable price (obviously more than what they paid for, dependent on demand/rarity) creating a more lively in-game economy. (other than just weapon/armor/vial transfers)

------ADDITIONAL NOTES------

This idea originally stemmed from Kal-El (1371)'s suggestion of Player Shops (as explained above)

The idea of Item Set pieces in predetermined locations is very similar to the Legendary Cards of the HC era. The idea of relating them to this idea was in part due to Sephiroth (56)'s Legendary Cards. Thread

With the Addition of the Loremaster position to the site, I'd like to revisit this topic as a possible avenue.

the loremaster to me sounds like the librian of the covens

maybe item sets could make armour or weapons like archeaology in WoW with maybe depending on your skill depends on the toughness of the item

@ IB

I'm not to familiar with WoW so the reference doesn't transfer for me.

The basic idea is to set up a system of Item collection so that users can have something they can work for that also has more than just stat bonus value (while there would be some in some case).

The individual set items could vary drastically from weapons and armors, to new non-equipment items like the Books/Pages I described previously, but could also be things like artifacts, tablets, fossils, tools, etc. The possibilities are endless and are only bound by story and imagination.

Most of the set items would be non-equipment by how I've envisioned this. But the possibilities of sets of Equipment is interesting, or even Sets with both!

i'll try and explain the concept of archeaology in WoW all around the in game world there are quaries and ruins in which people can go to to try and dig up artifact that can then be used to research an item depending on the area and race so searching in dwarven ruins will basically give you reseach points into finding an dwarven item

a lot of them are non-lethal so armour and weapons an are mostly like books or dice small artifacts that have no addition in combat but are interestng because they tell a story about that race

but there should be some small reward ever for the lesser item just so people have a reason to go looking. (while not always immediate reward, but reward after finding all the pieces.)
