FAQ

Battle Limiter : What is it?
The Battle Limiter is a feature which prevents other users from attacking you. If you are attacking other users, your Battle Limiter is set to 300 seconds (5 minutes); while it is active, you cannot be attacked by another user. You can still die, however, if a user you are attacking defeats you.

What does each specific statistic do?
Strength is the raw amount of damage you do and how much you can take in combat, so the more you have the more damage you inflict and the less you take. Agility Increases the chance of you hitting your opponent and also increases the amount of times you hit them. Endurance is how long you can last in a battle, when you run out of endurance you lose.

Covens : What are they and how do I join one?
Covens> are groups of individuals who share a private chat room and forum. Users in a coven generally do not attack each other.

CWtml : What is it?
CWtml is the game's text formatting language. For more information, see this

Coven Wars Slow-Downs & Crashes : Why do they happen?
When the game slows down (pages load slowly, chat refreshes don't occur), this is usually the result of a back-up or update being applied; back-ups commonly occur during the later portions of the night (approximately 20:00 WCST to 06:00 WCST). If the game is inaccessible, there may be an update being applied, or there may be a problem with the server. In the event of a crash, wait; the game will be brought back up as soon as the owner is able to do so.

Image tags / Signatures : how do you show a picture as your signature or on the forums?
You need two things to show a picture on the site, the picture to be uploaded onto the internet by sites like imageshack than you need to put the address to that picture between for it to work, pictures do not work in comments or the chat.

Making Money : how can you easily make fast money?
The fastest and easiest ways to earn money in the game is from referrals, attacking higher level players, and gambling.

Multiple-User IP : what is a multi, and how can I prove that I am not one?
When a user has more than one account on the game the accounts made after the first are named multi's, this is a violation of the game rules and Term of Service agreement. The staff will generally jail (ban) those accounts unless proof is shown that the other accounts is not owned by the same person, as in a relative.

Vials : what are vials and what do they do?
The premium vials come in 3 different colors: purple, green and orange. The purple skull is undoubtedly the best premium you can purchase and is the most expensive one you can purchase, it will cost you $10. The green skull is for a normal premium and this will cost you $5 to purchase. The orange skull is ONLY obtainable by purchasing a pack for a friend.

Premium Member : what is a premium member, how do you get premium, and what does premium do?
Users who spend real life money to support the site are premium members. You can find out more about premium, along with how to purchase it here.

Premium Package Application : how long does it take for premium to be applied after I purchase it?
It can take anywhere from 1 day up to a week. After you go through Google checkout, your payment has to pass a fraud check. Once cleared, you will then have to wait for Scot (Lestat) to deposit the skull into your inventory.

Reset: Account or Statistics : can you delete / reset your accounts or statistics?
No, you can not delete nor reset your account.

Spawn Protection: what is spawn protection and how do you get it?
Spawn protection basically keeps a player from repeatedly killing you over and over again. Once a player attacks you, he/she can not attack you again for another 3 hours. The same applies to you; making it so that you can only attack someone once every 3 hours.

Smilies (Emoticons) : what are all the different pictures you can use in chat?
In order to know what smilies are available, you can view this simple guide here. There is a link to this guide located at the bottom of the page when you are in the chat room.

Turns (max turns?): what are turns and how much can you have at one time?
Turns are needed in order to perform most of the actions on the site such as attacking another player, or training your statistics.Turns are also used for some of the arcade games. A non premium member can have, at most, turns and you gain turns every hour, on the hour until it reaches the max amount. A premium member can have, at most, turns and will gain turns every hour, on the hour until it reaches the max amount.

What do I do when I have no turns or money left?
If you are out of turns: Wait until the next respawn to gain 10.
If you are out of money: Use your turns to attack players or work in the Local Dinar for money. Also, Referring new members makes you a good amount of money and turns.

Player Age : what is my age and how do I get it?
Your "age" is just another way of showing how long you have been a member of the site. For example, when you see that your age is 18, it just means that it has been 18 days since you joined the site.

Player Icons : what are these things next to player names?
There are four possible icons that can appear next to a players name:

* or -- Denotes the player's gender. This appears to the immediate right of the player's name.
* -- This denotes the player is currently online. This appears after the player's gender icon.
* -- This denotes the player is in the same coven as you. This appears only in the chat window, to the immediate left of a player's name.
* -- This denotes whether a player has positive alignment or negative alignment.

Identification Numbers : what are these numbers next to my name?
The numbers next to your name has two main reasons for being there. It identifies who you are even when you change your name, and all that you do on here links back to it. It is also shows how many users joined before you.

User name colors : why do certain players have different colored names?
The colors of the different members you see indicate their "role" on the site. A member that has a white name indicates that they are a standard member. When someone has a green name, this means that they have purchased a premium package and have received "special perks" which all depends on which package they bought. Anyone with a blue name means they are game staff a.k.a site moderators. Lestat (Scot) is the ONLY person with an orange name which indicates that he is the site creator.

Add and edit friends : how do I add a friends and view them?
You can add people onto your friend list by going to their profiles and pressing the "Add as friend" button. To edit your friend list, go to myCW.

Regeneration cost : why does the cost of regeneration keep going up as I level?
As you become a higher level, it is only natural your regeneration costs increase. This is not a bug; it is a feature that helps to balance the game.

Being Attacked : how can this person attack me, and how do they beat me?
Users can attack other users who have one third or more of their net-worth, so even if they are level 500, they can still attack you if your net-worth is high enough.
The main reasons why some people can beat you who are either lower level then you, or have a lower net-worth then you has to deal with the stats they train; users who train strength and agility over endurance gain net-worth slower. The head to head game-type also counts, and finally they might have stronger weapons / armor / equipment then you.

Experience : How much experience do I get for beating people when attacking?
It depends entirely on your level and the other player's level. As a general rule, however, if you attack a higher-leveled player, you get more experience for the kill; if you attack a lower-leveled, you get less experience for the kill.

Money : How much money do I get for beating users when attacking?
The amount of money you get for killing a player varies greatly. If they are a higher level than you, you will generally receive more money; conversely, you will receive less money for defeating a lower-leveled player. Also, if the player you attack has any money in hand, you will receive a portion of that when you kill them.

Welcome to the text-based browser game known as Coven Wars. The following guide has been created to help newer players in their first levels of the game. This guide is purely suggestive in nature; please act upon its advice using your better judgment.

Please visit the rest of the pages in the [help files]: suggestions include the [Frequently Asked Questions] (F.A.Q.), [Glossary] and [Rules] pages.

Dungeon Armory

The first thing you will want to do is buy some equipment. You can do so by going to death valley up on the top tabs. From there you will want to visit the dungeon armory. Keep in mind where this is and what the cost and levels are needed for your upgrade. Starting off you can only buy a Night Blade or a Black Robe. Once you have bought something it is best to equip it right away. You can do so by going to your [Inventory] which is also on one of the top tabs. It is also a good time to [Bank] your money so other players don't steal it.

____________________________________________

Stats and Resources

There are four basic stats. You can use AP (which you get when joining, leveling up, and buying premium) to increase these stats. You can also use the insomniac gym to increase Strength, Agility, and Endurance using turns. You get turns every hour.

These stats are :

HP - HP means hit points and determines how much damage you can take. The more HP you have the longer you will last in battle.

Strength - This stat determines how hard you hit and also determines how much damage you take. The stronger you are the better your chances are of defeating your enemy.

Agility - This stat decides who attacks quicker. The more speed you have the better your chances of attacking your enemy before they do.

Endurance - This stat decides how long your character lasts in battle. The higher the endurance the more hits you can take and give.

To see how your attacks compare to others go to [battle calculator]

You also use turns to battle. It takes 1 turn to attack 1 player. You will get 15 turns every hour (more with premium) and to see when the time is, you can look to the right underneath the quick stats. After Revival you will get turns and 100% HP. The max turns is 300 regularly and 600 for Premium users. So its good to check in periodically to use them.

_______________________________________

Battling

You have two ways to search for someone to battle. Both of which appear after you click on the [battle] tab up above. There is Quick Search, and Advanced Search. The quick search shows you the current vampires that are your level and attackable. The Advanced search allows you to limit the level, networth, status, coven and also how many players appear on screen.

Level is important cause the higher the level the more AP that player obtained and probably used. While the higher the Networth means the higher the average your enemies stats are.

When you fight an enemy you will gain EXP and Money. You need money to buy things and you need EXP to level up. You can see how much exp you got on the quick stats on your right. You will also be able to tell how much more exp you will need. When in a coven your coven may tax your overall EXP and Money. This too will be shown after your battle.

When you lose a fight you will lose some money if you have any in your hand. So that is why its good to keep it in the bank. After your HP reaches 0 you will need to visit the [hospital] or wait until the next revival. You can heal before you reach 0 HP by going to the [hospital] when damaged.

__

Okay so with the word in [] like hospital needs to be placed as links to said place.

QuickStart
Quickstart Guide to Coven Wars

1. Read the Rules of the game. Be sure to read all of them and have a good understanding of them before continuing.

2. Go to the Dungeon Armory. Take your pick of which Weapons and Armor to purchase; weapons will contribute to your offense statistics while armor will contribute to your defensive statistics. Make sure you go to your Inventory to equip them.

3. Go to the The Bank and store the rest of your money in your bank account (it can't be looted from your corpse when you are defeated if it is in the Bank). You can also claim Interest from the Bank each day.

4. Go to Your Lair and upload a picture as your Avatar by clicking http://www.covenwars.com/pictureupload.php Be sure to keep it clean kids!

5. Go to the account tab and edit your profile. Include pictures, quotes, information about yourself and anything else you may want to publicize. Again, be sure to keep it within the CW Rules.

6. Use your Allocation Points (AP) on the statistic of your choice. For more information about each individual statistic, see the glossary entry on Statistics. For more information about AP, see the glossary entry on AP.

7. Now you have two options; whether to use your Turns to train your character or use them to fight and level up.
* To use your turns to train, go to Death Valley and then Insomniac Gym and pick a statistic to use your turns on. You will receive additional turns each Revival.
* To use your turns to fight, go to the Battle Tab. Pick Either Quick Search or advanced search. Here use the default criteria that loads on the page and click “Search”. Choose a user from the list and click “Attack”.
o If you won: congratulations! Store the money you took from them in the Bank and continue on your killing spree!
o If you lost: don't be disappointed! Go back to the Insomniac Gym and train a bit more. Developing a strategy to how you train and use your allocation points is wise; but don’t worry, each hour on the revival you will get full HP (or come back to life).

8. Join a Coven. Covens can give you useful tips and many will help you out with weapons and money when you need a hand.

9. Check out The Midnight Arcade to find some fun games to play and earn money.

10. Become a regular in the Forums and Chat Rooms. You can make some great friends here, chat about almost anything (be sure to read the terms before entering chat) and receive answers to any additional questions you may have.

Once you have earned some money and/or gained a few levels:

1. Go back to the Dungeon Armory. Purchase the best Damage or Defence Increasing Equipments you can; you are limited in the amount of pieces you may equip (it starts at only 1 piece), so choose wisely.

2. Use your AP and increase your stats. HP can only be increased by AP while strength, agility, and endurance you can also use the gym or AP.

Rules

Section I: Overview

1) These rules are a guideline to in-game behavior. When in doubt, the staff will examine the intent of the rules as a whole and apply them to each situation uniquely. In layman's terms, this means that if you do something that is not covered explicity within these rules, you may still be punished if the action merits it.
2) Scot is the last word on any disputes involving these rules.
- 2a) Scot is exempt from all of the following rules.
3) If a player ever threatens the website or its administration with legal action of any kind, their account will be deleted and their premium purchases voided.
4) This website is a business. Any player who attempts to infame it or its staff, whether it be through defamation or illicit activities such as hacking or spamming advertisements, will be deleted. This website and its staff cannot be held responsible for the actions of a player.
5) By playing this game, you release this site and its staff from any liability of what happens in-game. YOU ALSO AGREE TO THE GAME'S TERMS AND CONDITIONS (accessible here) AND, THEREFORE, THIS GAME'S RULES, PRESENTED IN THE FOLLOWING TEXT.

TAKE NOTE: Your history in chat will be taken into account if you are banned. For example, for the first offense at spamming a chat, you may be banned up to 3 days. If you are found to repeat this offense, you can and will be banned for more days. So, when someone is banned for 5 days for inappropriate comments, and one is only banned for 3, do not complain that we are being unfair. It is your responsibility to read and know the rules before you enter the chat. Furthermore, by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions (TAC) when you signed up, you agreed to follow the rules.

Section II: General In-game Rules for Players

1) Players will never discriminate against any other player on the basis of race, sex, religion or nationality.
2) Players cannot have offensive names, nor can they have names which are meant to impersonate a staff member's.
- 2a) This also includes team names, clan names, and clan tags.
3) Any player who feels harassed or unnerved by another player may message any staff member with their complaint. If they continue to be harassed, then the offending player will be banned or jailed appropriately. Harassment is not tolerated in this game, and is dealt with severely. Report harassment: here or here (preferred).
- 3a) Threatening any player with violence will also be construed as harassment and is also a punishable offence.
- 3b) Impersonating another player (for example, by taking a name similar to theirs) is also a form of harassment and, when reported, can also lead to moderation action.
4) Players cannot attempt to hack the game for any reason; players attempting to do so will be promptly deleted, and the FBI/Agency of their respective country will be contacted.
5) Players will not abuse bugs; if a player is found to be abusing a bug, they will be appropriately punished.
6) All accounts are property of the PorcelainSky portal and can be edited at any time. Selling an account, items or currency for real-world currency is strictly against the rules.
7) Players will respect staff members; if a disagreement occurs, they may respectfully request another staff member to review the specifics of the incident and offer opinion.
- 7a) Do not tell a staff member how to do their job.
- 7b) Do not message a staff member and ask how to get a staff position or recon armor.
8) Disclosing the location or meaning of a game secret is punishable by a ban. Requesting information on a game secret is also punishable by a ban.

Section III: In-game Rules for Staff

1) Moderators are subject to all rules mentioned within Sections I, II, IV and V (exceptions may occur, when applicable; when brought to contention, clarification may be requested). To be exempt or immune to a rule, the moderator must be acting within the scope of their position (i.e., the moderator must be acting in such a way that they are considered to be exerting their staff position).
2) If a user believes they have been wronged by a moderator's actions, they must follow the outlined grievance procedure to seek remedy. This procedure is the only way to receive a reversal of any moderator action.
3) Grievance procedure:
- 3a) Contact another moderator to formally request an intervention on the user's behalf, include a screen shot of the full incident or the grievance is invalid. Moderators: note this message in its entirety (include date, time, and user's name / id) on the staff forum.
- 3b) At this point, user interaction ceases. Do not complain about the moderator's actions; this will invalidate the grievance procedure.
- 3c) Moderators: discussion begins regarding the complaint; a formal vote should be taken and recorded in the thread. This should all occur within 12 to 24 hours of the complaint's receival. A PLURALITY IS NECESSARY TO TAKE ACTION ON A MATTER; IF THE TIME PERIOD ELAPSES BEFORE ALL MODERATORS HAVE VOICED THEIR OPINIONS, THE MISSING MODERATORS ARE SAID TO HAVE ABSTAINED FROM THE DISCUSSION.
- 3d) Moderators: pending the discussion's end, the moderator who received the complain may take the specified action. A message detailing the discussion's results must be mailed to the user; this includes any specified reasoning and/or warnings. User: Confirm receipt of said message. Grievance procedure ends here.
4) Moderators must always remain respectful to another player in the scope of their position; moderators conversing in normal fashion may adopt a casual tone.
5) Regarding moderators who have an excessive number of complaints against their actions (excessive, as determined by the staff members, on a situation-by-situation basis): formal complaints may be forwarded via moderators to Scot, who can take action at his discretion. The procedure parallels the grievance procedure, with the only exception being that Scot must be included in the discussion; time limits are irrelevant.

Section IV: Message Board / Communication Rules

1) Spamming, flooding, or posting consecutively in the same thread or in chat is strictly forbidden.
- 1a) "All caps" posts are also forbidden.
- 1b) "Off-topic" posts (i.e., posts that are posted within the wrong board or posts that have nothing to do with a thread's discussion) are not allowed.
- 1c) "Firsting" in any chat other than General is frowned upon.
2) The advertisement of the buying or selling of accounts for any other game is not allowed.
- 2a) See this rule regarding accounts of this website.
3) Posting pornographic or obscene links and/or images in any area of the site is strictly forbidden and will result in a ban or jailing.
- 3a) Excessively obscene comments, and sexual role-playing "cybering," is strictly forbidden everywhere on the site, including serious chat.
4) Linking to other text-based online games is not allowed.
- 4a) Discussing another text-based game (that is not operated by PorcelainSky) in any public medium of communication is also prohibited.
5) Excessive personal attacks ('flaming') directed to any individual or group is not allowed. If you have any complaints, please message a staff member.
- 5a) Excessive slander or libel of a player in a non-joking capacity will be harshly punished.
- 5b) If a player responds in a derogatory or disrespectful manner to someone who is 'flaming' them, they may not report them for harassment.
6) Complaining about bans is not allowed on the forums or chat.
- 6a) Posting for someone who is banned outside of your clan boards is forbidden; if caught doing so, you may receive the same sentence they have.
7) Signature rules:
- 7a) All signatures must be no more than 590 pixels in length, 200 pixels in height and 500 kilobytes in size.
- 7b) Players may have a maximum of two non-emoticon images in their signature. The combined dimensions and sizes of these images may not exceed the above limitations.
- 7c) Original signature rules thread.
8) Some forums have specific rules; the topped posts in each forum explain them. They are enforced as if they are a part of this document, and are to be treated seriously.
9) Players may not post their referral link anywhere on the website!
10) Players may discuss religion, philosophy, politics or sex (i.e., serious topics of discussion) only in Serious Chat.
11) Before creating a lottery ask the game staff for permission. For more information please see this thread.
12) Petitions are strictly forbidden and users engaged in such actions will be permanantly banned from the site and all of PorcelainSky's Network.

Section V: Coven Rules

1) Coven may not flood players with messages or comments inviting them to their coven.
2) Covens may be held responsible for the actions of their members.
- 2a) Covens may not hide any 'illegal' money or items in their treasury.
- 2b) A member stealing from one coven and joining another may result in their stolen funds being seized to cover their debt.
- 2c) Any coven with a high-level member caught "multi-farming" may be subject for deletion ("multi-farming", in this instance, means having a series of multies associated with their account).
3) Coven forums / Chat must adhere to the Message Board / Communication Rules.
4) Coven tag colors cannot be the same, or similar, shade as orange, purple, red, or mod blue (#0066cc).

Market place overpricing explanation needs cut out.

Such changes will be presented at log-on however, each player should at all times be aware of their obligations pursuant to the TAC at all times. Failure to comply with the TAC may result in the immediate deletion of the player’s account. These TAC cover all accounts including players with "donator" status.

GAME LAW
Pursuant to game law, players agree to follow all game rules and laws. The game rules and laws may be accessed by clicking on “Rules” on the help files home page of this site while logged-on. Failure to adhere to Game Law may result in the immediate deletion of the player’s account.

Transaction Policy

Introduction:

This addendum serves to document the Staff's official policy regarding the transfer of money between users and covens. It is meant to supplement the rules located on this page, not to supersede them.

Overview:

A legal transaction is defined as: any transaction that involves users or entities (such as covens) that accept the risk associated with transferring money (by transferring money, a user implies their understanding of these stipulations).. The Staff will not intervene upon a legal transaction. In a nutshell, this means that moderators cannot make a user return any money or items lost in a legal transaction so be warned who you send your money to!

An illegal transaction is defined as: any transaction which involves a bug, an exploit or originates and ends up with users who share an I.P. If you believe that you have been the victim of an illegal transaction, do not hesitate to contact a moderator.

The staff will take actions when an illegal transaction has occurred and in certain cases.

All entities held within the confines of this site are the Intellectual Property of the PorcelainSky portal. Contracts and agreements of any kind held between parties are to be upheld by the respective parties only. The Game Staff will not intervene if one or more party does not uphold their end of the agreement. In laymen's terms, the staff will not intervene if you loan anything to someone and they do not pay you back.

User Accounts Policy

Introduction:

In the spirit of fair play, users are intended to be in possession of only one account; by having more than one account, an individual user is granted an unfair advantage over their fellow player. It is the intention of this addendum to clearly outline the accounts policy of this game.

Overview:

1) Users are limited to one account per person.
- 1a) In the event that a user creates another account, it will be considered a multiple account ('multi') and promptly jailed.
- 1b) Repeatedly creating 'multis' will result in an IP ban. (Denial of access to the website completely)
2) More than one user may access the game at one location (IP), but with the following stipulations:
- 2a) Users may not transfer money to another user on the same IP; if a user is found doing so, they will be jailed.
- 2b) Sharing a location with a user who has previously violated the rules may also result in your account being jailed or deleted.
3) By creating an account on this website, a user implies that they are over the age of 13; if they are not, then it is implied that they have sought parental permission for playing. If this is found to be false, then they will be jailed without notice.

Sort of Necro-Posting, but...

The TAC are currently not accessible (the link (Help Files, Section I: Overview) is broken).

The TERMANATING YOUR ACCOUNT and AGE REQUIREMENTS are also inaccurate.

EDIT: I've edited it (I'm allowed, right?) and added it, but haven't added a link.

Can anyone tell me, what stamina is for? What it actually does to the stats? And why we can't use turn to increase it, but can if using AP?

Thank you.
